Timothy J. Jacob practices in the firm's Labor and Employment Law section, and represents management in all areas of labor and employment law, both in the private and public sectors. Concentrating in labor law for his entire legal career, he has extensive experience in the negotiation of labor contracts, labor arbitrations, representation of employers in union elections, and in aiding employers in maintaining union-free environments. He advises and defends employers in wage and hour as well as employee benefits matter. He represents employers in the defense of employment discrimination and wrongful discharge matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Ohio Civil Rights Commission, Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, Federal District Courts and courts of Appeals and Ohio State Courts.He has also practiced extensively before the National Labor Relations Board, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and various sections of the United States Department of Labor, as well as the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board and the Ohio State Employee Relations Board. He also provides day-to-day counsel on a full range of personnel issues, including management rights in disciplining and terminating employees, and both drafts and reviews employment manuals and handbooks and other employer policies.
His clients include employers in the healthcare, manufacturing, retail establishment, service, banking, broadcasting and publishing, and construction industries.
Mr. Jacob obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Business Administration in 1973 from the University of Notre Dame and earned a Juris Doctor degree in 1977 from Duke University. He is admitted to practice law in Ohio and before the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Third and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the Labor a Employment Law sections of the American, Ohio and Cuyahoga County Bar Associations. He is a frequent lecturer on employment law, labor relations, employment discrimination and occupational safety and health issues at internal training programs for clients and before outside groups.
Mr. Jacob serves as a Trustee of the Youngstown YMCA. He also is a volunteer and cabinet member for the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way, and is a member of the Council Executive Board of the the Greater Western Reserve Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
